SMA Camp History

How did SMA gets its name?

From Horsepower Adventures to Stone Mountain Adventures… Pam and Biff Houldin started Stone Mountain Adventures in the summer of 1983. Pam and Biff, parents of 8 children (including the current co-owner Jud Millar), lived on a horse farm called Horsepower Farm and ran a therapeutic riding program for people with disabilities. They decided to build a few cabins, remodel their country kitchen and start a summer program for able-bodied campers.  They named the camp Horsepower Adventures. The first summer there were 28 campers first session and 19 campers second session. Things went well and as the years went by the camp grew a little and more adventure activities were added. In the winter of 1987 Pam & Biff decided to change the name of the camp because horseback riding was only one of many outdoor adventure activities offered at camp. Stone Mountain Adventures is located in the rolling hills of Stone Valley at the foot of Stone Mountain in central Pennsylvania.  The name Stone Mountain Adventures seemed like a natural fit.
