SMA Rock Band Summer Teen Summer Camp to attend the 2014 State College Area Youth Camp Fair!

WHAT: 2014 Summer Youth Fair, scheduled for

WHEN: Saturday, February 1, 2014, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

WHERE: Mount Nittany Middle School.

Seriously, the winter has been so bitterly cold that it’s hard to even begin to think about summer.

But for parents, it’s time to think about what activities your children will be doing when summer finally gets here. And there may be no better place and day than Mount Nittany Middle School on Saturday.

The school, just off Warner Boulevard on Brandywine Drive in College Township, will be holding a summer youth fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, which offers parents and students a clearinghouse of program representatives, is the largest gathering of its kind in the area.

Families can choose from almost 50 area representatives, from day camps to preschools and religious activities to athletics. Plus, many of the organizations on hand represent numerous programs.

The event is sponsored by the State College Area School District Community Education, and it is free. For information on organizations participating in the event, call 231-1062 or see the complete list on this page.

SMA Rock Band Teen Summer Camp

Whether you are a beginner or an accomplished player Music Jam/Rock Band is an amazing opportunity to be in a band and play music with other campers and staff. You are welcome to bring your own instrument, however, we have an array of instruments including:

  • Bass Guitar

  • Drum Kit
  • Keys
  • Acoustic Guitar
  • Electric Guitar
  • Brass Instruments
  • Digital Recording Studio
  • PA Systems

Each camp session we gather musicians and create a band of campers and staff. We collaborate to find common ground on songs, set lists and arrangements. We often play cover songs but also love to work out original tunes as well. Our genres include rock, classic rock, progressive, blues, R&B, bluegrass, jam band and even the occasional rap song! Campers sign up for Music Jam/Rock Band as a morning activity and work towards a live performance during the SMA Carnival Evening Activity. We also have a digital recording studio and we record all our practice sessions as well as our live shows.

It is an incredible experience to have invested your time during practice to learn the arrangements of a set list of songs and then perform in front of your peers and friends at camp. The campers even get to name the camp band each session! We started the Music Jam/Rock Band Activity in the summer of 2006, and since then we have had a band perform a live show every camp session!and
