SMA Teen Camper Reflections:

Sasha

For me, coming to SMA was a fairly last minute decision. However, I am very glad that I came. SMA has given me the opportunity to reconnect with the adventurous, fun and a more open version of myself that I want to always be. Over the past two weeks that I have been here, I have been reminded what real friendship looks like and reminded of the kindness and happiness that real friends bring into your life. Camp has been an overall amazing experience not just for the people but the activities and overall camp activities. SMA has also been a great place to reconnect with old sports/activities that I love to do such as rock climbing and art. I also had many opportunities to try new things; personally my favorite activity was the wake boarding overnight. All in all camp has been an amazing experience and I hope I have the opportunity to come back next summer.

Well, at camp I have made some of the best friends and I’ve had some of the best times. I cannot express how much I will miss camp and how special this place is to me. I have discovered who I am and what is important to me. I can’t wait to come back next year and see what amazing memories I will make. I will cherish this place forever, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

This was my second session of the year and my last session as a 4th year. This session has been really fun. The counselors were great and I will miss all of them especially Hannah, Luke, Emily, and Olivia. I loved horse masters and will miss Pam and Tammy. This session we got a new horse and I got to ride Daisy, Dot, and Johnny. While I love all of the horses, I can’t wait to come home and ride. The van rides were great and I took many naps. Whitewater rafting was so much fun and I got to co-captain with Emily. I was sad we didn’t get to the duckies but, it was still so much fun. The talent show this session was great, I got to take Jack and Comet over some jumps and I did an amazing and totally accurate re-creation of the Lion King. I really will miss it here and I can’t wait to come back next year.

These two weeks have been a formative experience for me. I had to make friends quickly, settle into a new environment and acclimate to new rules and practices. I had a great time whitewater rafting and chilling in Rothrock. This year was my first time doing wake masters, and I had a great time learning how to wakeboard and chatting on the boat. I also love the animals at SMA especially Buckets, and Comet the most majestic dog I have ever met.  I love SMA and look forward to coming next year. I love the people and the history here, and of course I love the tea and jokes that come with SMA. Thanks to all of the counselors (except the ones who were part of the water war) that aided in creating this safe and inclusive environment.
