Millar Family, SMA + Horsepower Farm Pre-Summer Update!

Posted by Jud Millar on Wed, May 29, 2024

As the soft whispers of winter and cool march evening fade, the world awakens with a flourish of life we call spring. We have had an incredible spring here in central Pennsylvania full of moments big and small... we have had momentous events and special times together.

2-week-camp-1Our oldest child Wyatt recent accomplishments includes:

  • Wyatt qualified and performed at the Pennsylvania State PMEA Music Festival playing trombone in Erie, PA.
  • He was cast as the Mayor in Huntingdon Area High School's performance of the Music Man.
  • Last week he graduated from High School!

Wyatt plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and study music education with a focus on Trombone.  We are so proud of Wyatt Millar!

Our daughter Molly (rising 11th grader):

  • She plays travel soccer for the Penn FC Football Club in Lower Dauphin, PA and is the goal keeper.  They recently traveled to tournaments and showcases in Cincinnati, OH, Washington, DC and Florida.
  • She also plays for our local travel soccer club call the Huntingdon Hawks.
  • Molly was also on the Huntingdon Area High School Track Team and threw discus and javelin.

Molly's summer plans include playing soccer, assisting in the SMA Camp Kitchen for breakfasts and attending Hameau Farm Camp in the Big Valley as a CIT!

Summer Camp

Former SMA Camper and current camp counselor / mountain bike instructor Zak Kane and I attended the Philly Bike Expo in March and it was incredible.  We had a booth at the expo and were able to connect with so many fantastic people in the mountain biking industry many of whom have connections to central PA and the Allegrippis Trail System at Raystown Lake!

Spring is always an exciting time at camp here on Horsepower farm as the world comes to life and everything turns green.  Some highlights include:

  • We are building a new "turn-out barn" in the lower pastures below the riding ring.
    • We have started taking down the fences around the fields above the barn
    • This will free up the pastures for other camp uses including:
      • A new Archery Range
      • Additional Mountain Biking Trails!
  • The large tree next to the SMA Pizza Oven needed to taken down
  • Our Camp Dogs Comet and Jack are also excited for the upcoming summer.  Comet is showing her age (12 years young) but still active while Jack is full of energy and his tail is always wagging!
