SMA 2 Week Teen Summer Camp Attends Greenwich HS Camp Fiar

Posted by Jud Millar on Thu, Jan 29, 2015

The GHS PTA will host its annual SummerFare Camp Expo on Wednesday, January 28th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the GHS Student Center.  This event is open to the public and is free of charge.

The Greenwich High School SummerFare is an evening for exhibitors to present materials and talk with public and private elementary, middle and high school students and their parents about summer programs, internships, and camp opportunities.  With nearly 150 summer camps, programs and internships showcased, there will be representatives to help you find just the right program for your student, from day and sleep away camps to ventures abroad.  You will also find an array of academic programs, sports, visual & performing arts, outdoor adventure, community service programs, computer and special education programs.

SummerFare is designed to give families a look ahead to summer and to beat the rush on camp sign-ups.  This year marks the 26th year that the GHS PTA is sponsoring SummerFare.  GHS parents Tess Hollander and Renee Murphy are co-chairing this year's event.  For more information, please email summerfare@ghspta.org

SMA Adventure Teen Camp Philosophy

Stone Mountain Adventures is a Co-ed Overnight  Teen Summer Camp offering 2 Week Sessions for Teenagers ages 12 to 16 years old.

At SMA Teen Camp we believe that each individual should be challenged to step beyond their own abilities: To ride with confidence, to climb with technique, to control the sail, to bike one more hill. Stepping beyond also means personal growth: Developing self-reliance, trusting in new friendships, learning to be sensitive to the needs of others in community.   These are some of the things that make our adventure teen summer camp special.

As a 2 week teen summer camp with only 60 young teen campers ages 12 to 16 and a staff of 14, Stone Mountain Adventures feels like a family of good friends sharing the summer’s adventures in a noncompetitive atmosphere.  During our 2 week to 8 week sessions we celebrate our victories, accept our shortcomings, and learn from both. As the days flow by, our philosophy of respect and sharing emerge. We learn respect for animals, the outdoors, and one another. As strong individuals, we come together as a summer family while learning and having fun together.

Over the years we have kept our promise of staying asmall, family-oriented 2 week teen summer camp.We believe that our camp’s small size directly affects the quality of our programming as camp quickly becomes a close knit community that creates strong, positive intrapersonal relationships. Campers are challenged on activities every day which builds confidence. The combination of mutual respect among campers and staff and the increased self-confidence through physical endeavors helps teens to begin to discover who they really are and how they fit into this world. Being a young teen can be a challenging time and SMA is a fun, safe place for teens to grow emotionally and physically.
