SMA Session 3 is a Blast! (Teen Riding Camp)

Posted by Jud Millar on Wed, Aug 3, 2016

We are having SO MUCH FUN in third session of 2016 at Stone Mountain Adventures!

So far this session we have been hiking to Hunters Rock, we have completed the 1000 step hike, played soccer, volleyball, touch rugby, tennis, softball, ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee Golf both at the SMA course and at the Juniata College course. The beautiful weather this summer has meant that all water activities have been very popular with the campers. SUP (Stand up Paddle boarding) and Sail at Raystown Lake is a favorite on a hot day. We have been mountain biking on the Allegrippis Trails and along an old rail road. Canoeing down the little Juniata is always fun. Lots of campers have been working on their collage, and pointillism skills in Art Studio.

There have been 4 overnights this session, 12 campers signing up for 2 wakeboard, water ski and knee boarding camping overnights. The wakeboarders camped out right next to Raystown Lake. The climbing overnight takes place around 3 hours from camp, and campers get the luxury of sleeping in a cabin next to a fresh creek.

The adventure hiking overnight was popular this session, campers hike for around 2 hours and then camp in tents. All campers love making mountain pies and s’mores for dinner around the camp fire, heading to the lake for a swim, and sleeping in the outdoors.

Our evening activities have been just as exciting as the day activities, this session we went disco roller skating, we all dressed as silly as possible in bunk junk and took to the rink, we played games and skated. Campers and counselors imaginations have been tested with the Invention Convention. Jud Games is always a fun night which both campers and counselors enjoy!

During power hour you will often find campers playing Frisbee on the front lawn, or knock out basketball. Making friendship bracelets is a popular activity during Power Hour.

This sessions All Camp Day took place at greenwood furnace, after the mornings bunk clean ups and service projects the campers enjoyed games on the beach and in the water, before a BBQ of burgers and hotdogs specially prepared by the counselors.
