SMA Teen Mountain Biking Summer Camp to host Teen Ride at Dirtfest '14

Posted by Jud Millar on Fri, Apr 4, 2014

Stone Mountain Adventures, an overnight teen mountain summer camp in central PA, is excited to announce a new event at Dirtfest 2014!

We will be hosting a Teen and ‘Tween Ride at Dirtfest on Sunday Morning!

This ride will begin at 10am on Sunday, May 18th.  Riders between the ages of 10 and 17 will meet at the Stone Mountain Adventures booth in the expo.  Stone Mountain Adventures Teen Mountain Biking Summer Camp Directors and staff will join in and supervise the ride.

This will be about an 8 mile ride following Eagle trail to Sleek Dog over to Fawn down Osprey onto the Epic Hydro Loop.  Here’s where it gets interesting, when the Hydro Loop drops down to the waters edge we will board a house boat with our bikes and set sail on the waters of Raystown Lake.  Once on the boat, we’ll stop for a swim, have some lunch, and return to Susquehannock Campground Site 15 between 12.30 and 1pm.

Mom and dad, this is not a babysitting service, this is a teen and tween mountain bike ride open to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders.  Riders must come with their own helmet and bike, or they can demo a bike as well.

Parents must sign a Liability Release Form.

Riders must pre-register either on the Stone Mountain Adventures website or at our booth in the Expo area of Dirtfest.

What is Stone Mountain Adventures Teen Summer Camp, you ask?

We are an overnight summer camp for 12- to 16-year-olds offering water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and wakeboarding, canoeing, white water rafting, fishing, swimming and more.

We also offer outdoor adventure activities including rock climbing, hiking, camping, caving, and, of course, mountain biking.

But that’s not all. We also offer creative arts including art studio, culinary arts, radio station and music jam rock band.

Community Service projects are a huge part of our camp and we work in our local community to make a difference every summer.

Everyday we also do traditional sports including soccer, volleyball, tennis, golf, ultimate frisbee, touch rugby, softball and baseball, flag football, gaga and more!

The Allegrippis Trail was designed and built by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) and consists of 32 miles of single track trails in connected loops of three to five miles. The trails have been called “buttery smooth single track bliss” and consist of features including rollers, “whoopdy doos,” jumps and banked turns. SMA is a mountain biking summer camp and if you want to ride amazing single track every day then this is the camp for you!

Campers enrolled in the Mountain Bike Masters Program will learn:

  • Bike Safety
  • Basic Bike Maintenance and Repair
  • Trail etiquette
  • Trail Riding Skills to take riding to the next level

This program is ideal for campers who are excited about riding world class single track trails on a daily basis. Campers are welcome to bring their own bike or ride one of ours. The Mountain Bike Masters Program is open to beginner to advanced skill levels, however, riders should feel comfortable riding single track trails. To ensure quality, this program is limited to six campers. Please note that campers not enrolled in the Mountain Bike Masters Program will get ample time to Mountain Bike during their time at SMA. Stone Mountain Adventures is an outstanding Mountain Bike Summer Camp!

Here's what Robert Pell has to say about the trails in the "Assault in the Allegrippis" description.

"The Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake are some of the best trails on the east coast. The trails are buttery smooth and flow like a pump track through the forest surrounding the high-mountain lake. The trails are easy enough for your grandmother to ride but when you let off the brakes they become an adrenaline pumping roller coaster where your wheels are in the air nearly as much as they are on the ground. Once you get into the rythm of accelerating through the deep compression bottom turns and airing off the top of the next mogul you can't help but to have a huge grin on your face.
I assembled a handful of clips in an attempt to share the experience of riding the Allegrippis trails. This video will give you an idea of what it's like to ride the trails but it doesn't compare to riding it for yourself."
