SMA Teen Summer Camp 2nd Session Update (#1)

Posted by Jud Millar on Wed, Jul 15, 2015

The first few days of SMA Teen Summer Camp Session 2 2015 have been nothing short of incredible! We had a beautiful day for move-in, which was a nice change from last session, and have been experiencing some of the nicest weather this summer since. So far, each camper has completed the swim check and belay school, meaning every activity is open and the world is their oyster!

Our ‘Master’s’ programs – Wakemasters, Bikemasters, and Horsemasters – have all been great thus far; Wakemasters started with an all-day lake experience and have not missed a day since, Bikemasters have dominated both the Allegrippis and SMA trails, and Horsemasters are all getting reacquainted with their horsey friends! Some other activities the campers have done so far include hiking (and exploring the Ice Cave), some awesome games of ultimate frisbee, Rails-to-Trails biking, climbing at Donation rocks, soccer, SUP and Sail, volleyball, music jam, and a new activity called ‘Wakeboat Fun’!

This morning we have campers expressing their creative sides by painting new signs for around camp, the Bikemasters working in the bike shop and hitting the SMA pump track, some non-Wakemasters on the boat for wakeboarding, waterskiing, and kneeboarding, Horsemasters doing some riding, a large group on soccer and swim, and a handful of the 15-, 16-, and 17-year-olds visiting Juniata College! This afternoon the fun will continue with more SUP and Sail, touch football, Wakemasters, frisbee golf at the Juniata course, and our first canoeing trip of the session on the Little Juniata River!

The energy this session is already so high, and we’re only on day three of activities. It is always wonderful to see the returning campers and the new campers bond so quickly and watch the dynamic change from day to day. We can’t wait to see what session 2 brings!

New Call-to-action
