JV Schools Celebrate National Bike to School Day May 4

summer camp

Drivers traveling on Route 305 between Petersburg and Alexandria on Wednesday, May 4, may encounter possible traffic delays between 7:45 – 8:30 a.m. Students from Juniata Valley School District will be participating in the 5th Annual National Bike to School Day and will be biking to school during these times.  You may even see Teen Summer Camp Director Jud Millar riding his "Fat Front" Bike as he is volunteering to ride with students again this year.

Approximately 30 students will be biking to school Wednesday, May 4, along with parents, teachers and community leaders.

This year marks the 5th annual National Bike to School Day. Bike to School Day was founded in 2012 as a way to bring community leaders and children together to build awareness for communities to be more bicycle-friendly. The one-day event has now grown to a month-long internationally recognized celebration.

Bike to School Day events raise awareness for the need to create safer routes for biking and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.

The event is being organized through a partnership between Juniata Valley High School Sustainability Club, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Rothrock Outfitters, the Juniata College Bike Club, the Huntingdon State Police, and the Alexandria and Petersburg Fire Companies.
